The Universal Weight Bench is one of the most popular pieces of home gym equipment available today thanks to its versatility, good value, and price. It is an FID bench that can be adjusted to 5 levels providing comfortable and safe training for someone being at a beginner-medium fitness level.

Its weight capacity is acceptable, but not for someone who wants to lift heavy weights. In my point of view, it is the best option for men and women who need a basic but reliable bench at a reasonable price for light to medium strength training mainly with dumbbells.

It has a few minor problems, but for this price, it is not surprising, since it not commercial grade equipment.

Best Features of Universal 5 Position Weight Bench

​1. ​Comfortable and safe – Better training experience

​​The upholstery of the back pad and the seat are padded with foam which is not too thick nor thin. So, it provides a comfortable surface and support for your back while you do the exercises.

Also, it comes with a leg holder which is useful if you do decline exercises such dumbbell presses since it keeps you at the place without moving backward. Without that function, you may slip behind slowly which is annoying and does not allow you to handle the free weights correctly.

​2. ​5 Levels to choose from – Meaning more exercises

​​The back pad can be set in -10, 0, 15, 30, and 45 degrees. Hence, you can perform more types of exercises as if you had just a flat bench.

These adjustments are particularly useful for chest training. Exercising at decline level targets the lower parts of your chest while at incline level you can build your upper chest better. The flat bench press works mostly the middle part of your pecs. That means, with a pair of dumbbells, you can have a complete chest training.

Problems & Complains

1. No 85 or 90-degree position

​Unfortunately, the maximum degree is 45, so you cannot perform sitting exercises that require back support like dumbbell shoulder presses. You can do those workouts by sitting on the flat bench but it will harder to do the moves since you have to keep your back straight and keep your balance. (On the other hand, that is not so bad since this way strengthen your back and core muscles at the same time.)

​​2. The weight capacity is not that much

​​This workout bench is designed for home usage, so its maximum capacity is far less than gym benches. The maximum combined user weight and lift load is 430 pounds. It seems to be much, but keep in mind that the max user weight is 250 lbs. So, if you are a big bulky guy, who want to lift heavy weights, this bench is not for you.

​But, I think that capacity is far enough for an average weight user who wants to lift weights at a beginner-medium level.

3. The stabilizers should be longer

The rear and front stabilizers are typical T-ones which means they are not as powerful as if they were D or horn-shaped. (like the Bowflex 5.1 weight bench has) Plus, it would be better, if they were longer. Most of the users do not complain about too much wobbling, but if you want to pick up heavy dumbbells from the ground while you lie on it, you must be careful not to fall over.

4. The length of the back pad is rather short

​The length of the bench in flat position is about 47 inches, and in an inclined position, the back pad is just about 28 inches which is not that much. Hence, if you are taller than 6 feet, you may find it short to use it comfortably. (There will not be enough space for your head.)

​No, and even if you set it into a flat position, you will not be able to put it under your bed since it is about 18 inches from the ground.

​- Is the leg brace removable?

​No. But when you assemble it, you can leave it off if you want.
